Maud Beelman has been a journalist for more than 30 years, most of that time in investigative news. She has worked across the media spectrum, from large international news organizations to independent, nonprofit investigative outlets, and her work has been honored with numerous journalism awards. She was the founding director of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and is now the founding executive editor of the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism and a professor of practice at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Beelman has helped train journalists in the United States and abroad on skills used in investigative reporting and editing. She serves on the board of directors of the Alicia Patterson Foundation, which annually awards grants for long-term investigative and enterprise projects. Before joining the Cronkite faculty in 2019, Beelman was the U.S. Investigations Editor for The Associated Press. As an AP reporter, she was a domestic, foreign and war correspondent, reporting from the Balkans, Europe, Iran and Iraq. Beelman holds a master's degree in journalism and communications from the University of Florida.
